Google Knol against Wikipedia

Google is going to launch a similar service to Wikipedia in the next months : Google Knol (from the word “Knowledge“). The service is currently in very private beta.

People who are experts in their domain will be invited to write an authoritative article about it on Knol.

Like Wikipedia, Knol will be totally free and contributors will be able to make money from their articles with sharing ad revenues with Google. For example, see the screenshot below where you can see the Adsense Block:

Google Knol

Knol will be a online encyclopedia and will cover all subjects, from scientific topics to entertainment.

Contrary to Wikipedia that is a collaborative encyclopedia, Knol authors won’t be able to contribute anonymously neither edit the articles from other contributors.

So we are going to see (for the best) in the next year a war between Google Knol and Wikipedia, and between Google Search Engine and Search Wikia (open source Internet search engine, to which the community can contribute, by Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia).

Knol is not even public that Small Business SEM wrote an interesting article on 7 ways how to use Knol.

Old Man going crazy In Car Wash

Watch this old guy in his car. Hopefully nobody is in front of or behind the car.

The police report states that he flipped out because he lost his glasses.

“Pretty intense to do something like that, especially when there is other cars using the car wash”

Airline Panic Attack on Air Canada

This happened in Air Canada plane ride to London, England in December 6th, 2007 from Toronto.

I don’t know what is really happening but this guy is scared to die.

About the video author says:

“At 3:15 sec he says “f’in white people”. I personally believe that another passenger somehow provoked or encouraged this persons paranoid behaviour.

What is important is that everybody arrived safely.”

Toyota unveils two New Robots

Toyota violin robot

Toyota just unveiled 2 new domestic robots, one playing violin with 17 computer-controlled joints in its arms and fingers and the other carrying people.

Toyota has one goal : having robots being capable to help people in domestic duties, nursing, healthcare and short-distance personal transport by 2010.

Toyota also presented a two-wheeled intelligent mobility robot that can be used for elderly or disabled people over uneven ground and around obstacles “without disturbing the person sitting on the chair because of the wheels’ ability to adjust at the changes“.

U-Turn – AaRON (Lili) Song

One of my favorite songs from France is… in english!

U-Turn “Lili” by french guys Olivier Coursier and Simon Buret from AaRON (“Artificial animals riding on neverland“).

This is actually the theme song of the french movie “Je vais bien, ne t’en fais pas” by Philippe Lioret.

I would like to know from you guys from US, UK, … does this song also sounds good for english natives ? Tell me !

Lyrics below.

Official website: www. aaronwebsite .com

Aaron – U-Turn (Lili) Lyrics :

Lili, take another walk out of your fake world
please put all the drugs out of your hand
you’ll see that you can breathe without no back up
so much stuff you’ve got to understand

for every step in any walk
any town of any thought
i’ll be your guide

for every street of any scene
any place you’ve never been
i’ll be your guide

lili, you know there’s still a place for people like us
the same blood runs in every hand
you see it’s not the wings that make the angel
just have to move the bats out of your head

for every step in any walk
any town of any thought
i’ll be your guide

for every street of any scene
any place you’ve never been
i’ll be your guide

lili, easy as a kiss we’ll find an answer
put all your fears back in the shade
don’t become a ghost without no colour
cause you’re the best paint life ever made

for every step in any walk
any town of any thought
i’ll be your guide

for every street of any scene
any place you’ve never been
i’ll be your guide

Peter thiel october 31, 2007
investor, Facebook

got me a CS degree
honor roll, MIT

moved to Palo Alto
opportunity Knocked

thought i had the perfeect plan
took a job at webvan

traded in my twenties
for a worthless pile of tech stock

Suffered throught the market crash
lost a giant wad of cash

Pink slips, burger flips
would you like some fries

happy days are here again
lary page, sergey brin

time to write a business plan
so i can be like those guys!

here comes another bubble

it’s a monster rally
all around the valley

first you need a buzzword
then a second and a third

pick at least two industries
you’ll revolutionize
(newpappers + friendship bracelets)

find yourself an engineer
feed him pizza, buy him beer
(product placement : Samel Adams)

Give him just a fraction
of a fraction of the pie

need a good domain name
must be cheap, can’t be lame

something cool like
flickr, meebo, wikiyou, mahalo, bebo

“telephone” without the “t”
“digg” but with a triple “g”

make your elevator pith
(“We’re going to change the world!”)
code it up and flip the switch
(internal server error)

here comes another bubble
(VC #1: friendship bracelets and news is a game changer.)
the VCs are backing
(VC #2: The next wave of the web will be friendship bracelets.)
baby let’s get cracking

blog, blog, blog it all
blog it if it’s big or small

blog at the cineplex
blog while you’re having sex

blog in the locker room
babies blogging in the womb

blog even if you’re wrong
won’t you blog about this song?
(Yet Another Stupid Web 2.0 Video)

launch party, nicely dressed
what the point? sausage fest

blue shirt, khaki pants,
looking like a line of ants

need to get a facebook page
all these guys are half my age

twenty nice, past my prime
i feel so behind the times

here comes another bubble
(Matt is broke)
in a year we swear
we’ll all be billionaires

make yourself a million bucks
partly skill, mostly luck

now you can afford a down payment
on a small house

if you want a bigger one
hillsborough, atherton

better hoipe the same thing
happened to your spouse

IPO… luky you
have your cake and eat it too

Party yacht, party jet
why not buy a matching set?

build yourself a rocket ship
blast off on an ego trip

can this really be the end?
back to work you go again

here comes another bubble
(im in ur serverz making thingz better!!, Twitter has problems!!)
and when we are gone
(You looked better on Myspace)
this will still go on

and on and on and on and on…

Facebook hires Ben Meyer from Techcrunch

After stealing Googlers at an alarming rate, Facebook now just hired Ben Meyer, the product manager for Crunchbase at Techcrunch.

Facebook has now 10 new High Profiles and is hiring 2-4 each month according to Michael Arrington.

Arrington is a little upset against Facebook .

The number of employees should increase to 300 this year to 700 next year.

And according to ex-googler Justin Rosenstein, Facebook is the place to be.

The design of Future Scanner is pretty ugly but stories are interesting.

Among Hottest Scans we can find The Future of e-Books and Flying Cars Ready To Take Off.

Future Scanner is part of the MemeBox Network (Jeff hifford is the CEO.)
Nice niche-content digg-like for all of you who like technology, innovation and future of humankind.

Give one Get One Laptop per Child for Christmas

OLPC XO-1 computer

One Laptop per Child (OLPC) foundation extends “Give one, Get one” program until December 31, 2007 in the USA and Canada.

Wow that’s pretty cool to make a 200$ donation and then receive the XO-1 Laptop for only 200$ (a $399 donation, $200 of which is tax-deductible).

I think it’s a wonderful gift for Christmas that people can do.

Think about it : you give for disadvantaged child in a developing nation, and you also receive your christmas gift.

The first countries to place big orders for the XO laptops were Uruguay and Mongolia. Today we learn that Peruvian government has signed a contract to purchase 260,000 units and Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim has ordered 50,000 laptops for distribution in Mexico..

To date donations to the “Give one, Get one” offer are about $2 million per day.

To learn more and participate in the Give One Get One program, go now to or call 1-877-70-LAPTOP (1-877-705-2786).

I am just considering to give one buy one (for my son) for Christmas. I have to convince my wife!

For those wondering what are the Technical Specs of the Xo Computer.

The David Seah Compact Calendar to print

David Seah Compact Calendar

This is a useful tool to manage your time (at home) or your projects (at work): the Compact Calendar by David Seah.

David Seah is a specialist of Productivity and methods of empowering ourselves.

The main advantage of the compact calendar is its size : it fits on a single A4 page and you can print it at home… or at work.

Compact calendar has several advantages compared to the famous Gantt Chart :

  • retains the monthly calendar format, with days of the week in columns
  • Saturdays and Sundays are shaded differently, so we are not as tempted to plan our work schedule on them
  • You’re forced to break up project tasks to fit into each 5-day work period. Gantt charts, by comparison, tend to draw long lines through the weekend because that’s what lines want to do.
  • retain the days of the week in the same column, so it’s easy to mark recurring events that are tied to them

I am working with Gantt Chart since beginning of October and I must say I love David Seah’s Calendar, I should try to introduce it tomorrow at my job 🙂

Boost your Comment Count

Adding to Shoemoney’s post on 6 Easy Ways To Increase Your Comment Count

here is a summary with some additions:

  1. End your post with an open-ended question to start a discussion
  2. Reward your top commentators by linking to them : WordPress Plugin Show Top Commentators. I think to add a rel=”nofollow” for Google.
  3. Write opinionated posts, tell what you think and be who you are
  4. Use WordPress Plugin Subscribe to Comments to let your visitors subscribe to your comments by email (they receive a notification when a new response is posted)
  5. If you have already a lot of comments on your posts, you can install the WordPress Plugin Threaded Comments. It allows threaded comments like in forums or on Digg.
  6. Answer people’s comments. Show you are involved in the discussion and that at least you read their comment!
  7. Use WordPress Plugin Rate your comments that allows to vote for best comments like on Digg
  8. Display comments count on your blog. Comments attract comments.
  9. If you use Trackbacks, put them at the bottom, under your comments (personally I don’t use them, most of the time it’s spam)
  10. And the most important, Apply points 1 to 9 !!
